All three of the river steamboats
which left Hong Kong on Monday morning were delayed forevern! hours through running aground in a shallow part of the Canton River, between Whampoa and Canton.
In previous years boats have occasionally been impeded by mud banks in the dry (winter), season when the effect of the summer rains has been over,

On Monday, the "Langshan," "Sai On" and "Kwong Sat" were held up till high water at 6:30 p.m... arriving at Canton about 7.30 p.m. -five hours late
Yesterday the "Sat On" did not leave Canton 1 9.30 a.m. (1% hours late) on account of the tide.
Through late arrival on Monday, the cargoes carried up. had to be discharged yesterday morning with great speed.

THREE VESSELS OF 18,000 TONS TO BE BUILT
The Nippon Yusen Kaisha has decided on the descriptions of three passenger boats to be con- siructed shortly for its San Francisco service. Two of these to be built at the Mitsubishi Ship-| bullding and Engineering Worke and one at the Kawasaki Dock- yard, both in Kobe. The cost of building, is about Y.19,000,000 each and orders are to be placed shortly.
