The "Planelus arrived at Singa pere this morning, and further in- formation shows that the Incident. though quickly over, might easily have developed into a very serious utai.

There have been instances in Singapor establishments where the insolence of Hylum servants has led to tret ble, an hotel manager being actually assaulted on occasion, but this attempt by the "boys" po the "Plancies" was an unusually daring and impertinent

Second Officer Attacked. The "Plancius, which is a palatial} vessel engaged in the passenger traffic from Singapore to Java, cagrics a staff of about sixty Hylam servants, and it appears, that some friction had arisen between them and one of the two second-officers on the ship.

Most of the second-class passen- gers had finished their dinner and last the saloon, but the persons who were with the officer managed to keep back the crowd, and the oh- Lieut of their attack received no injuries whateyor, apart from being rushed about in the strugule.

The Hylams were shouting "and creating an uproar, and the passer- pers were somewhat alarmed for a few minutes, but as soon as the boys found they had more than one person to tackle they melted away [and the trouble was very quickly

over with no damage done.

As it happened, the officer attack- ed was not the man against whom. the boys claimed to have a griev lance, and who has now been trans- &ferred to another ship, but the Hylama did not realise their mis- take in the darkness.
