Considerable excitement was occasioned on the Star Ferry, Golden Star, which left Hongkong on

The alarm was at once raised, and two of the staff crew of the Ferry, together
Police Launch No. 5, immediately went to the rescue. In this work they were assisted by Mr. Merriman, a warder in Victoria Prison, who jumped into the water after the Chinese without the slightest hesitation.

The man was, eventually rescued in an exhausted condition and taken to Kwong Wah Hospital where it was reported that, he was progressing us favourably as could be expected after his plunge inte the harbour.
According to a letter subse- quently recovered by the Police it is alleged that it was a case of at- tempted suicide.
