The case in which Mr. Petar Richardson is charged with cheat ing Raffles Hotel in respect of chaque for $1,000 has been con- cluded in the Supreme Court. Singapore,

A Chinese "boy" from Raffles Cafe was re-called.. "and asked by his Honour what were the exact in- structions that he received: regard- ing Mr. Richardson. Witnesy: re-. plied that he was told that Mr. Richardson was not allowed to sign chits, and witness served Mr. Richardson on a certain day be cause he thought Mr Richardson was going to pay cash.

In reply to accused, witness sald that as soon as Mr. Richardson came in the cashier told him that Mr. Richardson was not allowed to sign chits and he asked Mr. Richardson for cash.

Another boy from Raffles grill room said he had received nó. in- structions regarding Mr.. Richard-

His Honour reminded witness that on the last occasion he told the court that the clerk had instructed him not to allow accused to sign

Witness: That was after he had signed, the chits..

Referring to an interview with Mr. A. F. Peate, manager of the Hotel accused 'in the witness box.. suid he was a bit excited and an noyed, having been a customer, at Raffles Hotel for such a long time, but he told Mr. Peate that he would give him a cheque. He wrote but. a cheque and gave it to Mr. Feate, saying. "It is as good as cash, Peate.. Keep it back a few days until you hear from me." Before He left. Mr Pente promised to in quire about witness's luggage, and o send it on to Penang by the night mat If it did not catch the ship. Just before the ship sailed the boy arrived from Johnston's Pier where he had been Tetched by a runner sent by witness, and wit- Iness went to Penang. He went to Ipoh, and after he had returned to Penang be was arrested and taken before a magistrate, who released him on personal bail
