The Amerieans felt that she was 300 valuable a prize to lose, and a volunteer crow of thirteen were placed on board under the charge of Mr. Elliott, the chief officer. A tow-rope was fixed and the task of towing the derelict 2,100 miles was commenced on February 16 WID weather was soon experienced, und the tow-rope snapped. A little later a new rope was got on board, and towing was recommenced. In view of the damaged state of the June steamer'e funnet the engine-room staff hit upon an ingenious plan for producing artifela draught By. utilising the ventilators, and suff-July cient steam was procured in the main boiler to drive the vessel at This the rate of four knata proved very useful in steering. As April 14.-B. I.. a result of more bad weather the tow-rope again broke, but the "West Ira" stood by her charge, and managed to establish communica-May tion. The rope broke again, and, it being discovered that the "Johanna Dybwad" could steam at the rate of aix knota,, it was decided that she should proceed under her own. power. When the Lizard was near" she was handed over to the care of ja tag. The salvore returned to their ship thoroughly worn pat but very proud of their feat.
