Guarantee For New Kent Coal Field.

London, March 18. In the House of Commons after an all-night sitting in the Committee stage on the Trade Facilities Bill, discussion chiefly centreing on the Government proposal to guarantee £2,000,000 to the new Kent, coal field Labour members moved" an amendment to eliminate the guar- antee on the ground that 200,000 miners were already unemployed, and the guarantee would only lead to further unemployment.
A number of Conservatives, in addition to the Labour members, protested against the policy of guaranteeing unnecessary new un- dertakings in competition with
established
Industries Mr. E Thurtle (Labour, Shoreditch) in- atancing the guarantee in respect of the Malay Tin Dredgers object- ing to the Government going out of its way to increase the Malay output of tin when the Cornish tin industry, was depressed.
The amendment was rejected by 148 to 66 votes:
