London, Oct. 7.

A message from Port Said saye An evening communiqué says the Conference to-day heard the that the a.. New suggestions were "Phemins" is towing at a spoed of made necessitating a fresh ex-nine knots.

The following was published in amination by the jurists.

The delegates left most amic- rably.

Mr. Austen Chamberlain ac- companied by Herr Stresemann, shook hands.

The outstanding topic of to- day is the fact that M. Briand this morning had an hour's conversa- tion with Herr Luther outside Locarno.

The conversation was most secret but doubtless it concerned the Eastern frontier.

MOSTLY UNTRUE.

1:

Locarno, October 7. An Italian newspaper has pub. lished a version of the text of the Paci which is declared here to be a mixture of truths and untruths, the latter considerably prepon- derating.

It is not proposed to publish an authorised text of the fact until it is really concluded.

Such a stage is far from being reached.

A THORNY TASK.

London, October 7. Messages from Berlin and Locarno indicate that Dr. Luther and Herr Stresemann's task at the Pact Conference is rendered more difficult by the critical attitude of Gerran newspapers and political parties.

The former particularly are protesting at the report of a possible German abandonment of objections to France's standing guarantee for the Eastern Paet in return for French concessions as regards the occupation of the Rhineland.

The Nationalists have even sent a prominent Reichstag sup- porter to Locarno, apparently to apply a, restraining influence on the German delegates' actions, if deemed desirable,

A Locarno message says that the German delegates are prepar- ed to accept clauses dealing with general arbitration on all Franco- German questions of a. politico- juridical character.

Atlantic City, October 7.
