The magnificent welcome re- calls the reception to the Ameri- can Fleet in 1908. The city was thronged with people from all The parts of New South Wales, harbour was crowded with craft of all descriptions. Besides the Australian aeroplanes which escorted to the harbour the eight American battleships and three" auxiliary vessels there were dia- tinguishable the aeroplane of the Italian Marquis de Pinedo, who is engaged in a flight from Rome to Tokyo via Australia, and who delayed his departure from Sydney for the express purpose of Phone 147 greeting the Americans.
