CORRESPONDENCE.

Hongkong Education.

To the Editor of the China Mall). | Sir, I have wondered, since local education has become a topic for discussion, how European ladies, diploma-ed or not, can ever hope to appreciate Chinese char- acteristics.

Now and then I read of the number of qualified school- mistresses coming out to the Education Department.. Some of the experts tell us that even an Oxford honours man has not got it in him to be able to adapt him- self to understanding our traits and thereby making himself the most appropriate teacher. If so, how can the average diploma-ed do any better. schoolmistress Better it would be for all Hong kong were to stick to the old local Chinese youths and the University product but and, this is a very great but, no difference in the status or salary of the two.
