Sir Hugh Clifford, G.C.M.G., is now Governor of Ceylon, having been appointed to that post this year at the age of 58 years, An able administrator, he has seen much service in the Malay States and elsewhere. He was Govenior ef North Bheo from. 1900 to 1901, and Colonial Secretary for Ceylon until 1912, when he was appointed Governor of the Gold Const. In 1919 he was made Commander-in- Governor and·

Chief of Nigeria. He is the author of many admirable studies of native life among the Malays.

Hongkong's frusent Governor, Sir Edward Stubbs, K.CM.G., has held the post since 1919. Appointed second class clerk, Colonial Office, in 1900, Bésacupe first class clerke in 1910. He was sent on a special mission to the Malay Peninsula and Hongkong The same year. He was a mem- ber of the West African Lands Committee in 1912. He was appointed Coloniai Secretary of Ceylon in 1913. This post he held until he came to Hongkong in 1919. He administrated the Ceylon Government on several occasions.
