ANOTHER ROBBERY.

WELL KNOWN STORE ·RAIDED

BOOTY WORTH $13,000.

Were The Thieves Scared Away By a Dog?

1840

THURSDAY, MARCH 26

Robbers broke into a city store Just night and secured booty worth $12,000. They might have secured more, it is thought, but | for the barking of a dog.

The robbery is none the less daring than the two effected some months ago at the establishments of Messrs. Whiteaway, Laidlaw & Co. Ltd. of Des Vceux Road Central and Messrs. Lock Hing & Co. of Queen's Road Central. This occurrence is all the more remarkable in that the premises raided were those of Messrs. A. Tack & Co, 26, Das. Vaux Road Central, a few doors away from Whitenway's and just at the back of Lock Hing's shop, and, of course, in the business centre.

The business of Messrs. A. Tack

and Co., is mostly in high-class cameras, lenses and jewellery, the store moreover handling. other

lines of merchandise. At. 6 o'clock last evening the shutters were drawn across. the front show windows, the shop was closed, and the 'manager (Mr. Au Ki) retired to his re Fsidence on the top floor of the building. N. member of the staff slept on the ground floor of the premises, the only occupant being Mr. Au Ki's dog which he had been in the habit of locking in every night.

||

On the shop being opened by the manager at 8 o'clock this morning, the mark of the robber was evident on the desks and couniers which were littered with ⚫jewellery trays removed from

Altogether four show cases and tw13- were opened and contents taken put for An assortment of jewellery in a part of the show window at the doorway also came in for the attention of the robbers. Owing to the presence of wooden shutters outside the glass window, the robbers were able to carry on their work without attracting the → attention of the watchman on the

seen the NEW 1925

It is believed that the robbers climbed the scaffolding put up for the renovation of the old P. and O building next to Whiteaway's and then got to the roof of the adjoin. ing building on the ground floor of which is the Dragon Mctor Livery 'Service and the Victoria Café. From there it is just a walk over to the roof of A. Tack's premises. which is on a slightly higher elevation. Just here there is a narrow lane sufficient for a man to walk along. Lowering theniselves from an opening on the zinc raof, the men got to the lane. A flimsy wooden shutter was burst open and a narrow pasaage serving as a lavatory down the side of the building was gained. The only obstruction was a door with zinc sheeting bolted from the foside, but not secured with a lock. A sheet was levered sufficiently to get a hand through and the bolt drawn back.
