these vestiges of a vanished land Kotsu Maru, (Jap.) O. 5. K., surface, there has now been found, by Mr. Reid Moir, a large series of massive flint implements which prove that man was present in Norfolk when the Cromer

Forest Bed was being laid down.

Some of these flaked flints of pointed and other forms are no large that it seems almost certals that the ancient Cromerians were people of great muscular strength and gorilla-like proportions. This, however, is only a surmise, as so far no human bones have been found in the bed.

In the days when these primitive Speople tel, the famous cliffs of Cromer did not exist, and' where the North Sea now is was a ylde, Fshallow valley occupied by

northern extension of the present

River Rie.

It was this river that deposited the strata w forming the Cromer Forest Bed From remains found in these strīta it is known that no Yewri than tree types of elephants, togather with the sabre-toothed tiger, bears, deer, horses, and other animals, including 'man himself, lved in the ancient valley of the Rhine. The forest bed is now Covered by the immense deposits held down by a glacier which, during the great Ice Age, extended All the way from Scandinavia to the Norfolk coast.

When these vast changes in the arth's surface are realised; it is dot lacult to believe that several hundreds of thousands of years must separate us from the days hon ancient man made his fint mplements and hunted big game Mo this part of England.
