11.
In spite of its tentontic name "KOENIGSMARK," the finest purely romantic film ever, screened, is a French creation. Based on a story of one of the finest writers of Modern Fiction, Pierre Benoit, produced with all the finesse and definess of touch, of which the French. producers are Masters, and supported by an excellent cast, it's a perfect example of the Romantic School. The story revolves around Princess Aurore Tumiene- there could be no romance without a Princess-and R. Vignerte, a young Frenchman engaged as tutor of ber ward. The scene is laid in the grand duchy of Lautenbourg, in which we may easily recognize any of the two dozen principalities abounding in Europe, before the war. There are guards and gloomy halls, jewelled women and courtly gentlemen, splendid receptions and dazzling court functions. How the woman of the story saves the man she loves, rises above intrigues and hatreds, and in doing, so saves her people from war with all its horrors all this is portrayed with consummate artistry and never erring taste.

A romantic echo of the days of piracy is linked to Signor Calouzi's decision to claim legally a fortune which is said to be worth millions of pounds sterling, and which is now lying in a bank in Bombay. Signor Calouzi asserts that he is a direct descendant of an Italian naval officer named Frederico Delte, who fled in the eighteenth century after he had killed a man in a quarrei. Pirates captured Delre, who joined the gang, became second in command, and inherited the whole of the chief's wealth. Calouzi bases his claim upon an old document which was found in Madagascar, where Delre settled down.

The Royal Opera House Covent Garden is to become an ordinary dance hall, equipped with a jazz band and welcoming all Comers able to pay 2/6 admission. It is expected, however, that the celebrated stage will be available for its venerable function of grand opera when the summer season reopens. The famous house has suffered many indignities since it was opened sixty-seven years ago,
but this is its first taste of being a popular "palace of syncopation.
