The latest volume of the official history of the war discloses that Ure late. General Townshend', on the suthority of die War Office, allered to the Turkish commander, the sum of £1,000,000 and, in addition, to surrender his guns if the Kut gur- rison in Mesopotamia was allowed its freedom on parole. The Burkish commander declined this offer, and also a later offer of £2,000,000, and shortly afterwards hunger compelled the unconditional surrender of the garrison.

Mrs. Hayes, of Kingston-on- Thames, celebrated her one hundred and third birthday by taking her first ride in a motor car. When she returned sho enid: "I have been. to heaven and back." Mrs. Hayes still reads, but is slightly deaf. One of lier chief amusemente is trying to pick winners of horse

rices.

SATURDAY, JANUARY,

NEW!

1925.

"A Woman of Paris' can be seen ten times and something' NEW found every time. Charles Chaplin has put a story on the screen with the vigorous style and effective workmanship with which de Maupassant might have put the same story on paper."

-JOSEPH H. MULVANEY, N.Y. AMERICAN.

RARE!

"Rare dramatic effect-big, gripping, human stories of life- holds the interest and quickens the heart. It is a most interest- ing motion picture. IT IS THE. CINEMA'S REAL HOPE"

-QUINN MARTIN, N.Y." WORLD.

INTERESTING!

The interesting and pleasing touches in the various scenes are like simple words used by an author to give spark and life to his story. This film lives, and the more directors emulate Mr. Chaplin, the better will it be for the producing of pictures.",

-F. W. MORDAUNT HALL, TIMES

MARVELLOUS!

***A Woman of Paris is marvellous-well, that's not half enough to say about it Without a moment's hesitation we' declare "A Woman of Paris' the finest piece of filmery of the year."
