During the intervais, the "Mail" reporter put his questions and Mr. Holdman's answers make very interesting reading,

Altogether there were 264 bags containing 1,599 parcels (of which 480 were insured) as compared with 1,684 (452) for the corres- ponding mail last year.

"

Asked if there were any parcels which had been weirdly addressed and might, therefore, not reach the addressee in time for the festive season, Mr. Holdman.made the reply given above,

A feature of this year's mail is the abnormally high percentage of insured purcels and the number of really valuable packages insured for substantial sums. It can' thus be presumed that some folks in Hongkong will be specially favoured by most expensive gifts from Home.

The "Macedonia" arrived yester- day afternoon and the Post Office attended to the letters last night, the letter mail not being consider- ed the Christmas batch as others will arrive with greetings.

The papers were sorted this morning and the partels staff has been, literally, up to their waists n parcels, since eight o'clock. It was expected that parcels would be ready for delivery by two o'clock this afternoon.

The First Lord recalled that) Australia, and New Zealand had expressed willingness to contribute before-the-plans-were-suspended While their contributions would still be welcome, it would be necessary for their Governments to review the matter in light of their present, financial commit- ments on naval defence.
