FEARS FOR SON SHE KILLED.

TRAGEDY IN HOTEL

London, September 17-The inquest on Mrs. Lois Brooke, 40, of Wallington, Surrey, and her ten-years-old-son, Digby, who were found dead with their throats cut in a bathroom at the Orchard Hotel, Portman-street, W., on Friday night, was held at Maryleboite Coroner's Court yesterday,

Mrs. Dorothy Money, of 'Wallington, Surrey, said the dead woman was her sister, who lived with her. She was separated from her husband, Mr. Leigh Brooke, but they had been meeting lately iLondom

Mrs. Brooke had an allowance from her husband' of £3 a week; which had recently been increased of £4. Nothing had depressed her recently except her mother's death in the spring She had not fully recovered from three operations.

Two letters to Mrs. Brooke

1 which Mrs. Mooney said were in Mr. Brooke's writing were tead:

One, dated August 4. said:

The other letter, dated August 6, told her not to worry, because if her money did not last to the end of the month she could write and fet him know.

The coroner said that on a piece! of paper found there was written in the dead woman's handwriting:

Oh, goodness, it ja getting.@N Had to do shopping here or Dig would have wondered why we should have come to town. Oh, God, I have fried to kill my darling and morphine didn't act and now salts of lemon. In a letter written on April 9 Mrs. Brooke said:

I feel as if I shall go mad. It is no fault of anyone, nor religion. I have not got the pluck to see my Hittle son struggle on without a mother. ... I have schemed with money, fearing to be short in the future, so there will be money in the post office. My husband has been kind to me lately and tried to help me. I don't want the blame to fall on him. It is just my own "dud" self which has caused me to go dotly. I must go away and do it. It would be so awful for them to have it here. I nearly did it on Tuesday when they went to Croydon... . She must think me heady though I try to hide my feelings.
