BOURNEMOUTH ROVER.

LAD EXPECTED, YET TO MAKE GOOD.

London, September 14.-Known as the "Bournemouth Rover from the fact that he has run away from home 16 times, Beniah Norman, aged 11, pleaded guilty at Canter- bury to stealing a pair of trousers and a silk scarf from a concert party's messing-room at Whitstable.

Norman admitted to the police that he had been sleeping-out on Tonkerton Slopes since August Bank Holiday.

The court missionary told the magistrates that the trouble was that the boy could not get on with his step-mother.

It was decided to send. Norman to Kingsworth industrial school, and Supt. Ford said that, from what he had seen of him, he thought the boy would make good."

Lord Methuen's Birthday.

Field Marshal Lord Methuen, who entered his eightieth year last month counts among his many well-earned decorations what is probably the only Germanic medal an Englishman can hold with pride (relates the "Morning Post.") Forty years ago, when he was British Military Attache in Berlin, Lord Methuen, one winter night, saved a would-be suicide from a canal in the Tiergarten. He did not know his action had becne known until, shortly after, on the eve of his departure from Berlin, the Emperor William L. before the whole Court, presented him with the Prussian Humane Society's medal for saving life.
