Canton, September 29. On returning to Canton after a week's absence up the West River I find that the city has been breat- ed to another crop of rumours which include the story that Dr. Sun Yat-sen has returned to Canton and has been here a week.
There is hardly any news in connection with the seizure of the Volunteers' arms and it is bélieved that the 10,000 or so Mausers and rifles have vanished into, thin air. The civil authorities are trying to get the public to stump up another month's rent emergency war contribution.

It seems that Dr. Sun's detachments North of Canton, including the "White Wolf's Cubs" are suffering from an epidemic. of beri-beri, believed to have been brought on by in- ability to procure suitable food. A good many have succumbed.

Mora discord is reported from
General the Kongmoon district. Leung Hung-khi, the nominee for garrison commander of the place, is resentful because Wu Te-chen (formerly Police Commis- Koner) is desirous of bringing his "Red" army to Kongmoon and be- cause General Hot Shung-chi (Dr. Sun's chief Cantonese militarist) wants a roar other than Loung's own brother, to be Police Com- mission at Kongmoon.
