AKALI ACTIVITIES.
From the latest reports from Amritsar and a few other centres in the Punjab it appears that Sikh moderates and loyalists, who are in the majority, finding it in- possible to tolerate further the extremist Akali activities of the Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Com- mittee, which were likely seriously
·tó endanger the general interests of the whole Sikh community, have decided, after all, openly to declare that they are not with the Akalis.' They started with organising district Sikh publicity committees, and by this time In almost all the important Sikh districts they have their com mittees to warn their unwary and Ignorant co-religionists who have so far been led astray by Akali propagandists.
TRAINING A PUPPY.
HINTS IN MAKING
OF GOOD DOG.
A well-trained puppy will grow naturally into a reliable, obedient dog.
It is very important to take in hand the training of a puppy right from the first day of his arrival at his new Home.
Prepare a comfortable place for the puppy to sleep in and then leave him with a bowl of milk and a few table scraps or puppy biscuit. Never visit him just be cause he howls, as if you do' he will get the impression that by making a noise he can get you to 'come and pet him. After one or two nights he will become quite acccustomed to his new lodgines and there will then be no further trouble at all.
Try to develop the young dog's | confidence, and, when he has obey. Fed a command, pat him approving- ly, and he will quickly realise what this means.
One of the first steps in training
a dog is to teach him his name, and to use this one always, especially at feeding time.. Do not try to teach a puppy more than two or three things in one day, or he will get confused and
in the end will have learned nothing.
Such matters as obedience and proper behaviour in the house -should-recelin-careful-attention;
and, when you are sure the dog” understands what he has to do, keep a close watch to see that tha orders are carried "out." Disobedi ence should be followed at once by a suitable punishment, so that the dog may associate the penalty with his wrong-doing. As a matter of fact a well-trained dog requires no more, punishment than a sharp word.

Giddy"-Mr. Wordsworth. "A letter written by Mrs Felicia Hemans, after a visit to Words worth at Rydal Mount, appears in the Cornhill Magacine. It is dated June 22, 1830, and is included in Mr. F. V. Morley's article on "Dora Wordsworth: Her Book." After describing her nervousness when the visit was in prospect, Mrs. Hemans goes on:-I was driven to a lovely cottage-like buliding, almost hidden by a profusion of roses, and ivy; and a most benignant-looking old man greeted me in the porch this was Mr. Wordsworth himself; and when I tell you that, having rather a large party of visitors in the house, he led me to a room apart from them, and brought in his family by degrees, I am sure that little trait will give you an idea of considerate kindness which you will both like and appreciate. In half an hour I felt myself as much at case with him as I had been with Sir Walter Scott in half a day. I laughed to find myself saying on the occasion of some little domestic occurrence, Mr. Wordsworth, how could you be so giddy?"

Another characteristic which the Tuchuns exhibit is an inordinate greed for money. It is not like as if they were eager to accumulate all the cash they are ever likely, to be able to handie.
