CHEKIANG KIANGSU WAR ZONE.

THE AFFILIATION OF DIFFERENT PARTIES ENGAGED- IN STRUGGLE NEAR SHANGHAI FOR

POSSESSION OF CITY.

REPORTED DEBACLE OF CHEKIANG.

PRECAUTIONS TAKEN IN SETTLEMENTS.

A Reuter cable from Shanghai, received here via London at 8.28 this morning reports the debacle of the Chekiang army. The cause is attributed to the Southern, and Western commands revolting and deserting to Fukien and Kiangsu respectively. The collapse of the remainder of the Cheklang Army la belleved to be imminent. Its accomplishment will leave Shanghai at the mercy of the Klangsu forces. Fears are not entertained-with-regard-to-the safety of the foreign ́settle- ments in view of the precautionary measures that have already been taken.

For the guidance of those who are not acquainted with the name of parties, individuals and places in the present China War, the following explanation will be found useful. The map below. gives the war zone and a part of the provinces of Kiangsu, Chekiang and Anhul. Kiangay is ruled by Marshal Chi Hsiet-yuan, who is rated as the third man in the Chihli party, Le.. the party now in power at Peking, with President Tsao Kun as No. 1 and Marshal Wu Pei-fu as No. 2. province is on the side of Kiangsu.
