MACAO, September 18. Tragedy attended the trip of] the s.s." Hang Cheong" from Canton to Macao last night as the guard sergeant of the Indian Jumped overboard and lost his life.. It was before sunset when he' committed suicide, the ship then being somewhere near Whampoa, about an hour's steaming from Canton. Some of those on board reduced fares. the steamer allege that the un- fortunate man was bereft of his senses, but they differ as to what exactly happened. A rumour is current that the man was disarmed.
