"It's quite fascinating work scouring the shores for the trea--B12: sures which the waves fling up after a storm.

I got my first taste for it when a coal-ship was wrecked off the little cove in Cornwall where I live. A few days later every pool among the rocks was crammed with pieces of coal, varying in size from immense lumps which were as much as I could lift, to bits only a large as a finger-nail. good quality coal, too-burning all the brighter for its immersion in the salt water.

And

That winter my coal-cellar was never empty of free fuel. At first the pieces were rough and irre- gular in shape, but the action of the waves soon rounded off the corners. It soon needed the eye of an expert to decide on sight whether the black pebbles at the bottom of the pools are coal or pieces of the slaty-rock of which the local cliffs are formed.

There are other treasures be. sides coal to be found. Wood, of coursé, in abundance, from great picces of deck-planking to small chips the right size for fire-light- ing. No one in our cove need ever go short of wood.

It has increased slight.} ly from the Bonins to S.W. Japan and from Hongkong to Haiphong. At 6 am, this morning the typhoon was near Lat. 259 N. and Long. 1270 E, moving West.

There are now no signs of a. typhoon 10 the cast of the Philippines.

Manila warning:-Typhoon in Lut. 250 N. Long, 127o E., moving W. Reed, 5d. 11. 250.

Hongkong rainfall for the 24 hours ending at 10 am, to-day, 005 inch. Total since January 1st, 824 inches, against an average of 67'61 inches..
