PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE
“ADEQUATE DEPARTMENT SOUGHT,
HEAD OF BOARD MUST BE QUALIFIED.
Coming Legislative Council Resolution."
The urgent necessity for an adequate public health service which, the Colony's four English newspapers have been voicing during the past few weeks will be brought directly before the Government on Thursday next when the Hon. Mr. P. H. Holyoak will submit the follow- ing resolutions in the Legislative Council:-

1.That it is the opinion of the Unofficial Members of the Legisla
tive Council that the jurisdiction of the Sanitary Board and Department should be extended:-
(a) in order that food may be properly inspected and
controlled.
b) in order that a campaign against flies and mosquitoes may be property organised and efficiently conducted. 2-(a) That the constitution of the present Sanitary Board and Department be enlarged in order that they may function as a Board and Department of Public Health, such new Board and Department to have complete analytical and bacteriological control of the water supply of the Colony together with all the powers of the present Sanitary Board and Department.
(b) That the "Head" of the Board and Department shall be one with the necessary special qualifications in Public Health. The "China Mail understands that these resolutions are being submitted by the Hon-Mr-Holyoak-on-behalf-of-all-the-Unofficial Members of the Council, including of course himself.
