Herr Marx, speaking in German said upon the success of the Conference depended the fate of Germany and Europe. Goodwill and thorough sincerity were necessary for success. The German delegation only proposed to negotiate in that spirit. Herr Marx confirmed the statement that the German Government regarded the Dawes Repon as a. suitable basis for the, solution of the Reparations question. He said it was prepared to proceed with; the draft of bills to carry out the Repon. If the conference succeeded, the German people would devote the whole of their strength towards carrying out the obligations involved in the report,
QUESTIONS IN COMMONS.
In the House of Commons, Mr. Lloyd George requested further information on the number of 'serious points" of the Inter-Allied Conference. Notably he asked whether the report was true that France would remain in the Ruhr for two years. He declared it Important to know not only whether we were going to evacuate Cologne, but whether another Power was going to send troops there and thus mako maiters' much worse: He asked whether France still claimed the right to take
separate action.

Mr. MacDonald argued that the safeguards were so complete that if the stage of sanctions were reached, there would probably be unanimity upož it. As regards Military evacuation of the Ruhr, he did not believe French public "opinion would be blind to the obligations placed on it by the declara. tions of its own Government. He declared no British soldier would remain in Cotogne à minute longer than was necessary to carry out the obliga- tions imposed on us by the Peace Treaty,
FRENCH PRESS ADVICE.
A Havas Agency message reads: Newspapers call attention to the necessity of the Allies showing a united front in discussions with the Germans. "Le Petit Parisien" says France will welcome the 'Allies' decision not allowing the Germans to argue against each paragraph`and each phrase of the protocols, with as much
satisfaction as for Faturday's agreement. The "Le Figaro" editor writes that if M. Herriot is still energetic he will make head against the German bluff and will be backed by real Frenchmen.
