THREE LIVES LOST.

CHINESE TENEMENT NEARLY GUTTED.

Three Chinese, a woman, boy and agirl, were killed through a fire breaking out in the house where they lived, No. 36 Sai Street, In Chinatown, in the early hours of this morning. The house was badly damaged in the fire and It came near to being gutted: An adjoining house, No 34, suffered

slight damage from the fluries.

Sal Street is one of the avenues leading from Queen's Road up the hillside and running through what is known as 'Paddy's Market." It consists of two rows of Chinese tenements and shops and access is had to the back by means of a scavenging lane.
