MORE ROMAN FINDS AT FOLKESTONE
........
During excavations on his land near the edge of the cliff at the Warren at Folkestone by Mr. Aird, of the Valiant Sailor Hotel, hundreds of oystershells have been dug up. They do novappear to have been dumped there, for they were evently placed in layers in material which is about nine inches" thick.
4
A piece of Roman glass has been found near what appears to be a seam of red sandstone, which gives evidence of having been burnt. It is of the colour of the Samian pottery made by the Romans. Maps which have been in existence for several centuries do not show any buildings at the spot, which is about half a mile away from the Roman sito discovered recently by Mr. Winbolt, the archeologist.
On the Roman síte. at Kast Folkestone
coin 1
of the. Roman Emperor Claudius A. D. 41-54) was picked up in remarkably good condition. The inscription is quite readable, and the coin bears, a head on one side and two figures of soldiers of the other.

Daily one hears of presentations for the various Courts, and one of the most interesting of the young girls who will make their bow to Their Majesties must surely be Miss Ishbel MacDonald. I under stand (says Gadabout in the Daily Chronicle) that she will attend the first Court, which is the one at which most of the diplomatic presentations are made. Miss Ishbel will not need to feel as nervous of the King and Queen as many another débutante, for few
have the chance of having been a guest at Windsor but a few weeks before the Court ordeal, as she has had. I hear that the thoroughly enjoyed herself, despite the bad weather. But then, there is much to see in the Castle itself, and Their Majestics were more than usually kind to their young, guest, for under their personal wing she Si many treasures that the ordinary visitor does not even glimpse.

A daily spectacle to which the police on the Embankment are Becoming accustomed is that of Cul. Hodge, M.P., wheeling a perambulator (says the Star). The Colonel is Liberal member for Preston, and is the proud father of two fine infants, the younger of which was recently baptised with in the precincts of St. Stephen's. Its father lives in the Temple. Col. Hodge is stil under 40, yet has lived a full and busy life. His first job was that of a pitboy in a Fifeshire mine, where, aged 14, he took charge of a team of pit ponies. On Sundays he used to walk to Kirkcaldy to listen to the parish minister whose beautiful delivery made the boy long to be an orator. Gradually he educated himself at night school and polytechnic. In due course he became a chartered account. Then came the war, a commission, and four years of distinguished service. In 191g he got called to the English Bar. and combines politics with a
