OPEN BOAT DANGERS..

CAPTAIN WHO HAD TO BE DRAGGED OFF SHIP

(Reuter's Service,)

·RANGOON, June 24.

The crew of the Clan Macmillan" experienced a trying 48 hours before being rescued. The night' was pitch black and the sea rough when the vessel grounded on the shoals of Preparis Island and shortly after started to sink rapidly.

The crew took to the boats, but stood by for "twelve hours until the ship finally submerged. Meanwhile the captain remained on the bridge and the chief officer literally had to drag him off.

The boats then rowed away with an electric torch as their only signalling apparatus. They encountered high seas and strong wind, necessita ting continual baling.

After the "Minhoa" sighted the two boatloads" of shipwrecked men there was still considerable difficulty in picking them up due to the half gale. The tanker" Schwe Dagon" came up and went off in search of the other boat which was now brought by the Chittagong with the captain and others on board.
