One of the most romantic busj. ness careers of the war is that of Mr. Thomas Cowan Steven, ship- owner, of St. Andrew-square, Edin burgh, who has been, officially announced a bankrupt in the Edin burgh Gazete.

From a clerk in a Leith shipping office Mr. Steven, who is now only 38, in 12 years made and lost a big fortune.
