THRONE OF EGYPT.
Recent discoveries made by the late Lord Carnarvon in the land of the Sphinx provë the existence, thousands of years ago, of one of the "missing links" in the chain of Egyptian dynasties. The founder of this dynasty, King Tut-ankh-amen, was the identical cruel Pharaoh of the Old Testament, who was responsible for the exodus from Egypt of the Hebrew slaves,
Thousands of years ago, before the desire for power and wealth had hardened his heart, he was the "Rudolph" of his "day. Ho was then as graceful and upright as a young palm tree, with the honey colour of his skin enhanced by the careful application of kohl and henna. He turned the beads of all the maidens and won the hand of Pharaoh's daughter. This was no mean coup for an insignificant prince, for he a vast gained a beautiful bride and became monarch of empire.
But there is one little point to consider. He came within the turn of a fickle dancing girl's heart, of being a complete "nonentity. This girl her name was Arvia-was a court celebrity," and was called "The Dancer of the Nile." Her story is told with singular beauty in the picture of the same title that is coming to the World Theatre on Wednesday next.
It was this way: Prince Tut-ankh-amen had a rival for the hund of the Princess, a prince of Syria, called Karmit. Kamnit was a hero. He had rescued the Princess from a. band of thieves. Now the Princess may have been a Princess, but she was first and last a woman,, and consequently subject to all the foibles of logic. Like all the ladies, she "adored" heroes, and promptly fell deeply in love with Karmit. She plainly Intimated to him her desire to bestow upon him. merely the throne of one of the greatest empires the world had known, in exchange for himself.
Had he agreed to this bargain, there would have been 2 King Tutankhamon
Since the Fates had decreed that Prince Tut-ankh-amen should rule over Egypt, a mere Princess could hardly prevail against them, so the lovers escaped to far Syria.
