The Truth About My Father' Murray, GA, by fount Leon 1. Tolstoi, is a Rock which no une in- ferested in the famous Russian nove- list should overlook.
If it reveals Palstoil's weaknesses as well as his greatness, it shows us the man. Clearly his wife was very harshly used by him. He had a unfavourable opinion of women and said of them:
A Sound and healthy woman is a wild beast. The most intelli- gent woman is less intelligent than 27-487 11. Tol-tor was nevertheless surrounded all his life almost chtirely by women, and women of the finest type.

PRISON FOR CONTEMPT
OF COURT.
Mrs. Annie Jane Sykes, of Little Birlings, near Knockholt, Kent, was committed for contempt of court.
Some time ago Mrs. Sykes filed a divorce petition against her hüs- hand," Commander P. S. Sykes. Proceedings for alimony followed, and an inquiry was held as to the ownership of the contents of the house. Pending a decision, the court ordered that neither husband nor wife should deal with any of the goods.. It was alleged that Mrs. Sykes had sold some books and furniture, and Commander Sykes asked to have his wife com- mitted for contempt of court.
Mrs. Bykes claimed that all the property belonged to her. She admitted having sold some books to a dealer whom she did not know, Well-behaved and, conferva-land some furniture to people now five. ale found no word of apin South Africa, whose name she proval for extruction without declined to disclose.
