The China Mail was informed by the Superintendent of Mailk that of 2.44. the 589 bage for Hongkong, four hundred have been received and ex- amined and to far as they can see. very little, has been damaged. The letters that have scorched will be de- livered.

It is probable that some of the damaged mail has been held up at Shanghai in which case, it will be despatched to Hongkong as soon as it is identified. This is, however, is not confirmed yet.
