A RECORD 7
FIVE RACES FOR ONE EVENT.
LUSITANO CLUB SPORTS.
It was good running weather on Saturday and some excellent per- formances were put up at the Race Course at the seven- -teenth annual athletic meeting of the Lusitano Recreation Club. The sensational finishes to the 100 yards open event must surely be unique In the annuals of sport in the Colony. The race had to be run five times owing to dead. heats, Carvalho eventually winning by inches. The first race was run in the excellent time of 10.1-5 seconds
The participation in a number of the mces of about fifty competitors from Macão added, much to the Interest and corapetition.
Mr. J. C. Barrelto, President of the Club, commenting on the keen tussle for the 100 yards race said that it showed consistent practice and training..
The prizes were presented by
Miss Marie Cerveira de Albuquer
羯
que Castro, daughter of the Portuguese Consul, at the

For assaulting an opium divan keeper, a Chinese seaman has been fined $25 (or one month's hard labour) and ordered to sign a bond of $50 for six months, by Mr. E. W. Hamilton. Complainant brought to the Yaumati Magistracy. on Friday last to give evidence against a woman charged with possession of false opium labels and evidence was given that as he was leaving the Court with a boy he was assaulted by defendant. During the hearing, His Worship thought that complainants had been intimidated and ordered the Court to be cleared.
