The capture of one of the ex- Kaiser's sons in the war would sec to be such an important. event that the other Allies, beside the United States, ought to have Apr. heard of it. But apparently it was nut so. And it has been left. Apr. incredibly enough, for Major C. E. Russell to relate the thrilling story, in his book of exciting yarns. "True, Adventures, of the Secret Service," just published (Hurst and Blackett, 12s. 6d.)
Freytag" claimed to belong to the Swiss Red Cross, and at the request of the German Government he had been sent to La Rochelle to look after their prisoners. In point of fact he was a persistent firebug," and repeated outbreaks of fire on the American "gasolene ducks" were brought home to him.
Although Freytag was sentenced, to death, he, was too mysterious and personally impressive to be speedily executed;" and extraordinary German efforts to effect his exchange proved we were right as to his being an important person.”
