STAMPEDE THROUGH NARROW STREETS.

BANDITS ROB THE DEAD BODIES.

TSINGTAO, March 4. Three hundred people have been killed and 400 injured, 200 shops and houses have been destroyed and thousands are homeless as the result of a fire at Chou Tsun near Tsinan on February 29.

Caused by an overturned lantern, the fire spread rapidly. Many people were foasted in their homes.

There was a wild panic in the narrow streets and scores of people were trampled under foot.

The glare of the fire attracted bandits who robbed the bodies. Corpsestrew the streets, together, with the injured and the dying. Through lack of attention the suffering from hunger is intense.

Governor Hsiung is organising relief measures.

It is estimated that the property loss is a $1,000,000.-Reater.
