RENEWAL ALMOST CERTAIN.

'ALLAYING PUBLIC ANXIETY.

“CHINA MAIL'S" SPECIAL INQUIRIES. Great anxiety is being felt among tenants regarding the rents Law which many fear will not be renewed. Accordingly the “China Mail" has much pleasure in announcing that it will almost certainly set afoot yesterday will be renewed, as the following inquiries show.

Mr. A. G. M. Fletcher, Assistant Colonial Secretary told a "China Mail" representative yesterday morning that in all prob-

ability the law would be renewed. The question, he said, was now in the hands of the Unofficial Members and if they asked for the extension of the law, it was quite possible it would be granted. Mr. Fletcher referred our representative to the Hon. Mr. Pollock giving him authority to repeat the statement.

It will be remembered that, in June last, Arbitration proceedings: took place between Mr. Chik Soong-ling, of Shanghai, as plaintiff, and Mrs. Violet Chan, of Hongkong, as defendant, as to the rightful ownership of the Chik Soong-ling ticket.
