EMPIRE RESOURCES,

STANDING ECONOMIC COMMITTEE.

PROPOSAL TURNED DOWN.

LONDON, February 25.

In the House of Commons at question time, Mr. G. H. Thomas, Secretary for Colonies, stated that after careful consideration the Government had decided, particularly as the Imperial Economic Conference itself was not unanimous on the subject, that a standing economic committee with general teams of reference would not assist co-operation among the governments. Therefore the Government was unable to support the adoption of the Imperial Conference's recommendation.

Pressed on the subject, Mr. Thomas said the Governments of the Dominions had not been consulted. There had been no time to get in touch with anybody about it. Mr. Thomas added that the matter would come before the House.
