THE CHINA MAIL.
January 14, 1924, The weather since I last wrote has been about perfect, in fact rather too perfect for the Skating community, for although the Rink has been completed for a number of days there has not been enough frost to form a sufficiently hard surface for skating. To-day there is a slight north-west blow on and this may mean a change to more wintry weather.

On January 5 the Customs Club held their Annual Children's Xmas. Party, where a large num- ber of Community children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mrs. Malcolm, the popular. wife of our Port Doctor, acted as hostess, with Mr. Whitmore as host. The children were first, entertained by a Chinese conjurer: but the excitement waxed strongest when Father Christmas, ably done by Mr. Towlson, arrived on the scene

THE CORONET.
The narrative of “The City of Silent Men" is full of interesting developments. It deals with the experiences of a map who is on- justly imprisoned, and his escape from Sing Sing the famous New York prison. From then on there are a number of exciting in- cidents.
