"CLUB" DEFEATS "NAVY."

J

CUT TIE AT HAPPY VALLHT.

A crowded stand witnessed the first Cup Tio in the triangular com- test for the Rugby Cup on Saturday at Huppy Valley when the Club succeeded in defeating the Navy by 1 goal (6 points) to uil.

The Club kicked off and the ensuing ton minutes aw neither sido with the advantage, play never getting far from the half way line. "From then onwards until half time the Navy -pressed keeping their opponents in the "25" region with the exception of the last five minutes when the Club brought play into the Navy'a half.

Half time arrived with no acore. On the resumption the Club seemed to have a slight advantage and after about ten minutes play Bowker gave to Cleland who manag ed to break timough and by means of a well judged cross kick Skinner was sent over to score a try for the Club. Bowker adtled the oxtra 2 points with a magnificent kick from

difficult angle. The Navy for words came away with vigorous rushes from the subsequent kick off but could not muko much ground. The Navy looked dangerous towards tho end and the Club were forced to save. Audrows was knocked out and had to be carried off but vory pluckily came on the field again after 4 or 5 minutes. With no fur- ther scoring "no side" found the Club winning by 1 good (5 points) to ail,

The game throughout was very fast and even and on the play perhaps a draw would have been the Inirer result.
