CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH. 'After the Becretary had read the notice convening the meeting, the |Chairman said :--

Gentlemen, The roport and ac counts having been in your hands for some time, I will, with your per nission adopt the usual course and take them as read.

After vexatious delayn, wo started operations in December last, but during the first 4 months, owing to the cold weather, very little ico was sold, and as our financial year closed on 31st July last we have actually had only four working months in the financial year under review. The result of the working as you will notice from the accounts show. ed a loss of $4.71.82 (including interest an overdraft) which when added to the debit balance of $44,932.71 brought forward from last year makes a totul debit of $49,644.53, which your Directors propose carrying forward to next. year's account.

I should like to mention that had conditions been normal in Canton, instead of showing a loss on the year's working we should have

been able to show a profit, and your Directors have every confidence that when Canton reverts to normal condi- tions again, we shall be able to dispose of the whole of our output of ice and show a fair margin of profit on the year's working.

The plant and the factory are in excellent condition and we are in; a position to extend our plant if necessary. The Bolinder Engines have not yet been disposed of, but every endeavour is being made to find buyers.

In view of the loss shown, neither your Directors nor your General Managers have received any remuneration for their services. In conclusion, I should like to state that the 1938 unissued shares have since been sold at par and the Company's capital is now fully subscribed and paid up.

With these few remarks, I beg to propose the adoption of the Report and Accounts and after' same has been seconded, I shall be pleased to answer to the best of my ability any questions shareholders' may wish to ask.

Mr. Ho Kom-ton seconded the sea-proposition which was carried

unanimously.

Mr. Ho Kom-tong briefly referred to the trouble in Canton which, bei said, as pointed out by the Chair- man, had been responsible for a loss being shown during the past year. However, in view of the fact that the actual working only extended lover four months and in view of the Canton narest, Mr. Ho felt con- vinced that when things became normal in Canton, the company
