By pressing a gold telegraph key in his office in the White House, President Coolidge has started the pony express race from St. Joseph, Mo., to San Francisco. The riders, following the trail of the first pony express, are relying a message from Mr. Coolidge to Mayer Rolph, of San Francisco. The use of the telegraph to start the race gives an idea of modern methods of speed as compared with the style of half a century ago.

Prof. Francis B. Sayre on in- law of ex-President Woodrow Wilson, has announced in Santa Barbara, Cal, that he has accepted appointment as the legal adviser of the King of Siam. He has ob- tained a leave of absence from Harvard University, where he is a member of the faculty, and left for Siam on October 1.
