At Marylebone County Court' Frank Nicholl, a walter, sued Almano Packo, a head waiter at the Hotel Great Central, Marylebone- road. W. for £1 Izs., which he claimed as his share of tips given at a luncheon and Derby night ball at the hotel, at which he was a tem- porary waiter.

Nicholl said a plate was sent round among the guests by the head waiter, but none of the temi porary waiters was given anything from the proceeds.

The Registrar (Mr. Vaughan- Roderick): How much do you expect or get from each guest?

Nicholl: We usually reckon “a' bob a nob," but some give 25. or 2s. 6d.

Julian Gerrard, a head waiter, said it was the custom for temporary waiters to share in a plate collection,

The Registrar: Sometimes waiters at dinners come up behind you and say, "I am leaving now, sir." What is the meaning of that? That is what they call "topping.” (Laughter)

Packo said the temporary waiters were told that they would not share in the tips.

The Registrar, in giving judg-` ment for Packo, said he thought it was an unfair arrangement.
