THE TWENTIETH SUNDAY
AFTER TRINITY,
THE EPISTLE
St. Paul like many other writers, thinks of the spiritual life as a journey on a long road, which for many is a constantly ascending one and for all a stretuous pilgrimage requiring heavenly fond and re- freshment. He pictures the pilgrims in this Epistle as walking circum- spectly, namely setting forth with due preparation and forethought for his journey well garded against the evil he knows he is going to| mret wisely sure ying the route that he may take the most direct path; firmly and without undue an- xiety, walking standily on, not thinking only of himself but also of the coming pilgri as who in later days will see the dep, firm, fool- prints and know they are on the right path.
