It was reported to the committes that the chartering of the s.k. "China" as a floating base at Yokohama is impracticable through légal difficulties. The chartering Oat. of the "Namsang” for a month has, however, been jointly undertaken by the Hongkong and Shanghai Sept. .Bank and the Chartered Bank. Later, if necessary, Mr. A., G. Stephen has also undertaken to place the 'Oriental" at the dis posal of the Yokohama community on easy terms for the same purpose.

ft was decided to send a number of canvas tents and matting tents to Japan.

Mr. R. Sutherlund reported that Mr. Bugbird, who passed through the catastrophe in Yokohama, in- formed him that the most urgent need of the people was temporary building marterial. People were leaving the place because there was nowhere to live and the best way of re-establishing the place would probably he to give them the wherewithal to make

little shelter for themselves. Lengths of wood, nails and hammers would therefore he alant the best relief materials to sund.
