HEAVY FIGHTING MAY

BE EXPECTED,

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

CANTON, August 29.

During the last few days all. available soldiers in Canton, Fat-, shan, Honam and the outlying districts have been sent by rall to the East River front.

Dr. Sun has already left for the front and is reported to have taken with him. 10,000 dollars in silver! and 2,000,000 catties of biscuits to put heart" into the troops on the East River,

A FEELING OF RELIEF.

Much relief is felt at the departure of the troops. Except for an occasional wounded man in uniform, one seldom sees a soldier nowadays.

The troops of General Chan Kwing-ming captured Pok Lo a few days ago, but Sun Yat-sen's forces drove them out two days later. It is not known whether General Chan decided that it was Moscow, August 30. Mr. Yamasaki is not the chair-not worth while to offer a stubborn man of the Tokyo Chamber but resistance an account of the floods and the doubtful_strategical value chairman of the Russo-Japanese of the place, or whether Sun's men Trade Association. His visit is cornected with the All-Russian fighting is expected any day now actually gained a victory. It is confidently reported that General Wu Pei-fu has sent 70,000 Northern soldiers to assist Chan Kwing-ming in an attempt to Capture Canton. Rumours are rife that Dr. Sun cannot raise any more money for his troops, so that far- reaching developments may be expected unless financial help is immediately forthcoming.
