MEMBERSHIP REDUCED BY 700,000 IN 1922.
The Labour Party's annual report, shows that the total income during the year WAS
£51,721, against expenditure of £70,782, reducing the balance of £23,033 with which the year began to £3.972. The difference is explained by a falling off in receipts from affilia- tion fees owing to the effect of unemployment on trade union membership and an increase in ex- penditure, largely attributed to the cost of the general election.
The affiliated membership of the party now stands at 3,310,236,com- pared with 4010361 a year ago.
The executive has decided that the Communist Party's renewed application for affiliation cannot be entertained, and will recommend at next week's conference of the party at Queen's Hall, W., that it be not accepted.
