ANNOUNCEMENT.
WING to the receipt of numerous complaints from patrons as to the Incivility of various members of the Staff of the Hotels under the Management of this Company in Hongkong, such complaints being to the affect that "Cash" has been demanded in satisfaction of Liquors supplied, and patrons thoroby inconvenienced by not being allowed to sign "chita," we big to draw the attention of our clientelo to the terms of the Liquors Ordinanco, 1917, an extract from which is hereby given :-
2. In this Ordinance.
(a) "Cash" means soy coins or notoa current in the Colony,
(b) Sale" includes any transaction in which intoxicating liquor is applied for any consideration whatasever, direct or indirect.
5. (1) Subject to the provisious of sub-section (2) of this section, no person sball sell any intoxicating liquor for consumption on or at any licensed promises except for cash.
(2) Sub-section (1) of this section shall not apply to the following -
(a) any sala by the proprietor of an hotel to a person residing at
the hotel;
(b) any sata by the proprietor of an hotel of liquor to be consumed in the dining room of the hotel at one of the regalar meals of the hotel or of liquor to be consumed in conjunction with any other bona fide meal for which a charge of at least thirty canta can be reasonably made ;
(c) any ando in accordance with the conditions of his licenco by
the bolder of a restaurant adjupot licenco.
4. Where any intoxicating liquor is sold by a servant or employed in contravention of anction 3 of this Ordinance the employer, whether a natural person or a body earporate, shall be deemed to be guilty of an offence against this Ordinance uolens ho proves affirmatively that the sa'n was against his-oxpress orders and without his consent of connivanco.
5. Every person to whom any liquor is, to the knowledge of such person, supplied in contravention of this Ordin- ance shall also be guilty of an offence_against this Ordinance.
