SEPARATE REPLY UNLIKELY.

AVOIDING FURTHER BITTERNESS,

(Reuter's 'Service to the Chína Mail.)

LONDON, August 9.

A full meeting of the Cabinet was held at No. 10 Downing Street to-day. One or two further meetings are necessary before a reply to the recent French note is finally, approved.

Authoritative quarters in London welcome Herr Cuno's statement that Germany has nothing to expect from Britain as disposing of the idea that Britain is desirous of taking sides on the question of the occupation of the Ruhr.

WAITING.

LONDON, August 9.

It is authoritatively affirmed that it is not the Government's immediate intention to reply separ ately to Gennany owing to a desire to avoid any thing calculated to embitter relations with France. Ministers are still aiming at rapprochement with a view to a joint Allied answer to Germany.

There are no ladications that Britain will make a fresh move for several weeks, apar, from reply ing to the Allies.

It is understood that the Government is still not prepared to advise Germany to abandon passive resistance unconditionally as that would be equivalent to interfering in a dispute in which Britain has not taken sides.

CABINET AGREES.

LATER.

It is learned authoritatively that the Cabinet was in full agreement regarding the nature of the reply to France and Belgium which is being despatched very shortly.
