sold are Black Satteons and Vene- tians, Velvele and Brocaded For the latter, prices Poplina. realized and offered are extremely poor, values having been to a large extant slaughtered" by Japanese merchants as 'counter to the boy. cott policy. It will take a long time hefore the wide difference which now exists between home prices for this important class of goods, sud local parties, can be overcome, and it would seem that this particular bruch of the trade is under a cloud for the time being. Consumers show.
preferenco for silks and light wool- lens, and of the latter a fair amount of orders have been booked with Yorkshire manufacturers.!!
Whites and Greys ogoin show improved prices--the boycott prob- ably being responsible--but bolders have for the most part cleared their cheaply bought cargo, and are now holding out for replacing costa which means an increase in selling prices or exchange of anything from 6-19 per cent.
2
At the moment, not only is ex change tonding to go against the importer, but the firmness of the Manchester market is a further, obstacle to new business. Cotton prices are slightly up on last month, and though complaints are made of the very poor volume of business which actually comes to book, it is difficult to get concessions on the part of maicers. After the Whit- Buntido Holidays, the bulk of the enquiries from India and China which bad accumulated were deg cribed as on an impossible bamy and Manchioster seems to be looking to lower cotton prices to solve the problem. We feel confident that once prices can be brought into lina, a period of satisfactory trading will enene.
