In the House of Commodis, the Promier, Mr. Stanley Baldwin announced that the Government had decided that In addition to meeting the essential air power requirements of the navy, army, Indian and oversea commitmente, British air power i

ower mast include a home defence air force of sufficient strength adequately to protect us against air attack by the strongest air force within striking distance of England.

In the first instance the home defence force ́ ́would consist of 52 squadrons to be created as soon as possible. Preliminary steps were being taken forthwithand the result would be to add 34 squadrons to the authorised strength of the air force. :

Prior to further development, the question would be examined again in the light of the then existing air strength of foreign powers. The Goverment would gladly co-operate with other governments in limiting air armaments similarly to the Washington treaty.

The expenditure this year did not exceed £500,- 000. The average expenditure did not-gxceed £5,500,000.

A LONDON, June 27. The Air Minister, Sir Samuel Hoare, presiding at a dinner given in honour of the foreign delegates of the International Air Navigation Commission, emphasised that the Government's decision to to crease the air force did not constitute a menace against any other country. The Government did not contemplate the likelihood of war or the danger of attack. Its decision was dictated solely by reasons of national defence.
