MANACLED FRISONERS. The Woman the World WorshipsTM

is She whose Love for her Man POLICE VAN DUE HERE

or her Child is so great that SHORTTY...

in it she loses Herself!

Interviewed this morning with regard to the suggestion voiced in the China Mail that morn modern methods of bringing prison- era from out-districts to the Central Police Station should be adopted, the Captain Superintendent

of

| Police, Mr. E. D. C. Wolfe, said diat this had been attanded to some tius ago but delay by the Crown Agents in sending out a Donais chassis had made it necessary for the old practice to remain still in force. Mr. Wolfe added that a Ford van was sent out last Novem her for prisoners and transport work in the New Territories. As the need! on the island was more pressing the van had been used here till quite recently, when it was noticed that the van would not stand the strain of work on the steep roads, especi ally when carrying heavy loads.

In last year's estimates, a Dennis chinasis to be made into a prison van, had beer provided for, but it had not arrived yet. It could also be ted for carrying stores and would be very useful. However, it was not expected to be here for another two months.

A Reuter cable from London to day states that the Lord Char- cellor, Viscount Cave, has been operated on for peritonitis. His condition is satisfactory.

Taking with her the best wishes of the community, Lady Stubbs, left the Colony yesterday by the s.s."Empress of Russia" and ex- pects to be away for about five months. She will proceed across Cahada and sail from Montreal on { the Empress of Scotland" to England.
